In Brighton England, in 1990, a bassist from Belfast recorded a version of Pharaoh House Crash. It was a year of heatwaves, raves and riots.
Pharaoh House Crash was also chosen as his artist name. The song's dystopian vision of a society where people are rebelling and the workers are on strike, reminded him of his childhood on the Falls Road during the Troubles. Debut single, Epic Dream (a song about global warming) came out in 1993 and follow up, the Backlash EP (about misogyny, free speech and domestic abuse) was released in... 2020. The current PhC single is Disclose Divest. It was inspired by the ongoing protests against our ineffectual, unrepresentative and corrupt governments. "Hoyden To Harridan was started 30 years ago, but it's theme remains prescient - a takedown of the engrained and often casual misogyny in society." (Robin Murray, Clash Music Magazine) |
